Stone Harbor Beach Info:
"Charming" is a word that could describe Stone Harbor; charming shops, charming rental cottages, charming beachfront. A definite contrast to the flurry of activity found in the Wildwoods, Stone Harbor caters much less to the teen crowds and concentrates on the 'family experience'.

Stone Harbor relies heavily on the neighboring beaches to provide non-surf attractions and activities. Stone Harbor does quiet beaches, and does it well. Some people would place Stone Harbor on their "Best-Kept Secrets" list, which suits the residents and renters in Stone Harbor just fine. While the beaches at better-known Wildwood and Atlantic City are crowded beach towel-to-beach towel with vacationers, Stone Harbor remains relatively quiet and uncrowded. And if that's what you're looking for, Stone Harbor is the place to go.

Guards are located at raft beaches: 83rd, 87th, 94th, 96th, 100th, 105th and 117th Streets.

They are also located at the following beaches where rafts are not permitted: 86th, 90th, 102nd, 103rd, 108th, 112th, 116th and 120th Streets.

Surfboards (with leashes attached) are permitted at 81st, 110th and 122nd Streets

Avalon Beach Info:

Avalon, northern sister to Stone Harbor on 7 Mile beach, enjoys the same low-key atmosphere of Stone Harbor, with a few additional enticements. Avalon features a modest boardwalk, and for those seeking a more active vacation, a large fleet of excursion fishing boats are available. If you prefer to do your casting with your feet planted firmly on the ground, try your luck from one of Avalon's numerous piers and jetties.

Since Avalon is in such close proximity to Wildwood, most of the more gaudy attractions have been left by the wayside, leaving the Avalon beachfront with a very natural, undeveloped feeling. This does not, however, leave the comfort and entertainment of its visitors completely unthought of. There are several fine restaurants, taverns and hotels in the area.

Generally, Avalon seems to appeal to families and 30-somethings who are trying to find a quiet place along the Jersey Shore to call their own. There's not enough happening on the half-mile boardwalk to attract the attention of many teenagers, leaving Avalon a nice place for daytrippers or vacationers to plan some time in the sun where you can still lay back and hear the sound of the surf.

Bathing and swimming are permitted only at protected beaches where lifeguards are on duty. Use of rafts, surfboards and catamarans are permitted only at designated beaches.

Protected Beaches: 9th, 15th, 16th, 18th, 21st, 24th, 26th, 28th, 30th, 32nd, 35th, 38th, 40th, 43rd, 50th, 57th, 61st, 65th, 69th, 73rd, 76th, and 78th Streets
